Castaway Kodi Addon
Castaway is new Kodi addon that does one thing and one thing only, Stream Sports!
People are always looking for sports streams from all over the world in the Kodi program. Sports Devil is another Kodi addon that is dedicated to sports. But as of writing this article Sports Devil has had some issues and has not been 100% for the past few weeks. We do not know the exact cause of SportsDevil having issues finding live streams. But Sportsdevil is one of the oldest Kodi addons and always seems to bounce back.
With that being said, we should cover briefly why sports streams are the hardest to get. As with all live TV streams in Kodi the content cannot be stored on a static server and accessed anytime in the future. Live streams need to be broadcast on the fly and have to have a powerful server that is able to give out massive amounts of data at one time. This is one of the main causes of buffering on live streams. The server simply cannot give out enough data.
But let’s get back to the Castaway Addon and why it is a great addon from sports fans all over the world. Castaway is basically the exact same type of addon as Sports Devil. It does not host or provide any content on its own. Castaway just like Sportsdevil searches webistes from all over the world that provide sports streams. Castaway and Sportsdevils developers need to code the addon to allow it to access these sports streams from these various websites.
Most of these sites support their server costs by having on screen advertising on their webpages. Castaway and Sports Devil bypass these ads and provide the content through Kodi. As you might guess, these websites are not usually pleased with a Kodi addon providing users with their bandwidth and streams. These websites recode their streams so that Kodi addons cannot link to them anymore. This makes the developers have to recode their Kodi addon so that it can access the streams again. It’s sort of a cat and mouse game for bandwidth and access to streams.
We suspect that the developer of Sports Devil has not had a chance to update the addon and that is the reason that many streams are not playing in the addon. But for now, Castaway seems to have full access to all of these streams.
We are sure that Sports Devil will be back up and running at full speed shortly. But we are very happy that Castaway is working very well. It is always nice to have multiple addons to search for different types of video content.
At this time we have placed Castaway in our 7 on screen shortcuts in our Kodi build. Sports Devil is still installed in the build, but it is located in the Video Add-ons section and not on the home page.
If you run our Kodi Updater App (Only works on Genuine Skystream Boxes, Trust us!) you will have the Castaway Sports Addon on your home screen in Kodi.
As always, we have no idea if this addon is here to stay for good, or will eventually die off and be replaced with something else. But for now, it is running great!
